The blade-cover tie rod is the threaded rod that secures and locks the blade cover (the metal guard covering the non-cutting edge of the blade) on the Sirman Agata slicer. Screwed onto the hub, it holds the blade guard in position during use and allows it to be removed for thorough cleaning: it is therefore a safety component as well as a hygiene one.
This tie rod has thread 8. Replace it when the thread is stripped or damaged, when the rod is bent or has play, or when the blade cover no longer locks securely: in all these cases the blade guard is no longer reliable.
