The blade guard is the shield that covers the side of the slicer blade not in contact with the food — a safety component that reduces the risk of accidental contact during cutting.

Materials: stainless steel (most common, easy to clean), plexiglass (transparent, keeps the blade visible) or nylon on some older models.
