The spout is the component fixed to the base of the portafilter with screws, which channels the coffee coming out of the filter down into the cup below. In the "single cup" version it has one delivery channel, unlike the "2 cup" version which has two side by side. This is the part to replace when the original spout is broken or dented, when it is clogged with limescale or coffee residue that diverts the flow, or when the screw-fixing holes are worn and no longer hold the part firmly onto the portafilter body.
