The tray sits beneath the blade/disc unit to collect the cut product; the built-in magnet interacts with the machine's safety sensor, allowing it to start only when the tray is correctly fitted in place.
This is a wear part due to daily repeated insertion and removal: when it is dented, deformed or the magnet loses strength, the machine may no longer recognize the tray and fail to start, or cut product may spill over the edges. In these cases it should be replaced.
