It is the reservoir that holds the regeneration salt of the softener built into DIHR professional dishwashers: the brine produced inside it periodically regenerates the resins that trap limescale, protecting the heating element, boiler and nozzles from scale build-up and keeping glasses and dishes free of streaks.
