It is the control board that manages start/stop and activates the motor's electric brake: the brake quickly stops the blade at switch-off, a key safety requirement to prevent the cutting part from coasting on.
It is an electronic component subject to failure from overvoltage, moisture or wear: typical symptoms are a machine that will not start or a blade that does not brake at switch-off (a hazardous condition). Replacing it with the correct model restores controls and braking.
