The ring nut screws onto the drain waste plug located at the bottom of the tank, securing it in place and ensuring a watertight seal, preventing water leaking at the drain connection point. With use and continuous exposure to hot water and detergents, the ring nut can loosen, crack or wear at the thread, causing water leaks from the bottom of the tank. In these cases it must be replaced with a spare of the same thread size (1"1/2) to restore the seal and proper drainage of the dishwasher.
