What it's for. The filter basket is the strainer that separates the juice from the pulp: the auger pushes fruit and vegetables against the micro-slots of the basket, the clear juice flows out through the spout while the waste is expelled separately. It is one of the most heavily stressed components of the extractor.
When to replace it. With use, the micro-slots can clog, widen or deform: if the juice comes out cloudy, yield drops, or the basket shows cracks, it's time to replace it. To clean it thoroughly, use the dedicated brush; the basket is dishwasher-safe.
