The handwheel screws onto the front of the grinding unit and is used to clamp the perforated plate and knife against the auger, ensuring even mincing and preventing unminced meat from leaking out between the discs. It should be replaced when the thread is worn or damaged and no longer allows firm tightening of the unit, or if the body of the handwheel is broken or deformed.
