The pressure switch detects the water level inside the dishwasher tank. As the water rises, the air pressure in the tube acts on an internal diaphragm that switches an electrical contact: the signal controls the water fill, the heating element and the pump. At the 28-12 setting the contact trips and resets, keeping the correct level in the tank.

A faulty or mis-set pressure switch produces typical symptoms: the machine does not fill with water, overfills the tank because the level is no longer read, or does not heat because the element receives no enable signal. Replacing the component restores correct operation of the wash cycle.
