This is the heating element that, screwed into the tank wall through its threaded plug, stays immersed in the liquid and brings it up to temperature by direct convection: the classic solution for heating water in the tanks of professional warewashing and cooking equipment. The 3/4" brass plug allows fitting and removal with a simple wrench, with no flanges or bolts.

When to replace it: water that no longer heats up or takes too long, RCD tripping at switch-on (element leaking to earth), element visibly encrusted with limescale, swollen or pitted. Before refitting, clean the threaded seat and replace the sealing gasket; in hard-water areas periodic descaling considerably extends the life of the element.
