The sharpener is the unit that houses the two abrasive grinding wheels for periodically honing the slicer's circular blade, an operation needed to keep a clean cut and reduce strain on the motor. The "no hood" version is not covered by the upper protective cover, unlike the enclosed versions. Spare part for Atoma slicers, Max and Meat series; replacement is needed when the original sharpener is damaged, when the grinding wheels can no longer be adjusted correctly, or if the support breaks.
