The shower screen (also known as diffuser or dispersion plate) is the perforated disc fitted inside the brew group of La Cimbali professional espresso coffee machines, positioned between the group's boiler chamber and the portafilter. Its job is to spread the pressurised water evenly over the tamped ground coffee, ensuring uniform extraction across the whole filter surface.

Over time the holes of the shower screen tend to clog with limescale and coffee residue, causing uneven or "patchy" water flow, a watery-tasting shot on one side of the cup versus the other, and a drop in brewing pressure.
