This gasket runs along the perimeter of the bell, the transparent lid under which the vacuum is created, and ensures an airtight seal between the bell and the work surface during the vacuum and bag-sealing cycle. With use it wears down, hardens or deforms, losing elasticity: when this happens the machine struggles to reach the required vacuum level, the cycle takes longer, or the vacuum reading fails to stabilise — a sign it needs replacing. It must be fitted exactly along the seat profile on the bell, without cuts or joints, to ensure a uniform seal along the whole perimeter.
