Professional vacuum packing machines — chamber or external — share some parts subject to frequent wear: gaskets, sealing bars and bags are the components that wear out fastest with daily use.

Gaskets: silicone lip gaskets create the seal between the chamber lid and the tank and are usually sold by the metre; they must be matched by profile/section (for example 9x6 with lip, or 8x9) and position (chamber or counter-bar). A hardened, cracked or leaking gasket is the most common cause of bags that don't seal properly under vacuum.

Sealing bars: the stainless steel wire/tape that heats and cuts the bag, available in different heights and thicknesses — the right size depends on the sealing bar model fitted on your machine.

Bags: embossed (for chamber machines, in sizes such as 15x25, 20x30, 25x35, 30x40 cm) or smooth in a roll (for external vacuum machines, widths 15/20/30 cm) — the two types are not interchangeable between the two machine technologies.

Other parts: vacuum pumps and dedicated lubricating oil, electronic boards and control keypads, complete vacuum chambers.

Measure the profile and section of the one you're replacing (width x height) and check whether it has a lip: these are the two figures that determine a correct seal, the chamber diameter alone isn't enough.

Why doesn't the bag seal properly anymore?
The most common causes are a worn gasket (no longer pulling a vacuum) or a sealing bar that needs replacing (not sealing at the correct temperature); check the gasket first, it's the part that wears out fastest.

Can I use chamber machine bags on a bar/external machine?
No: chamber machines use embossed bags (the texture lets air escape), bar machines use smooth bags from a roll — they are not interchangeable.
