The grinding wheel is fitted on the slicer's built-in sharpener and restores the cutting edge of the circular blade. In the sharpener's wheel pair, the fine-grit wheel is used to finish and polish the edge after roughing it with the coarse-grit wheel, producing a sharper, longer-lasting cut. Replace it when worn down, glazed (shiny surface that no longer abrades) or chipped on the edge.
