When to replace it: the lid no longer stays up on its own, drops back down or is hard to open, or it slams shut. These are signs of the internal pressure loss of the gas spring, which is normal after many cycles. When the machine has two pistons, replacing them as a pair is recommended for even lid opening. Always check the centre-to-centre distance (226 mm) and the hole diameter (Ø 6) before purchase to make sure it matches your model.
