The aluminium hand wheel is the clamping ring nut of the mod. 12 meat mincer: it screws on by hand onto the mouth of the machine and locks the knife and plate assembly in place during grinding. It is the part the operator tightens manually to close the mincing unit, keeping knife, plate and mincer body firmly seated together without needing any tools.

Made of aluminium, it is lightweight, easy to handle and corrosion-resistant, suited to frequent use at home or in a small butcher's shop. Over time the internal thread of the hand wheel can wear: when it no longer tightens firmly, spins freely, or the mincing unit works loose during use with meat leaking from the mouth, it's time to replace it.
