The gasket runs along the edge of the bell and creates the seal against the work surface during the suction cycle, allowing the machine to reach and hold the set vacuum level. The lip profile improves adherence even where the work surface has minor irregularities. It should be replaced when the part is worn, hardened or permanently compressed, since in these conditions the machine no longer reaches full vacuum properly or the cycle takes longer.
