The fine grit is the one intended for finishing and polishing the cutting edge, after any pass on the coarser-grit wheel.

Always check all three dimensions (diameter, thickness and hole) and the type of emery wheel against the one in use, because the hole diameter determines the correct fit on the sharpener shaft.
When to replace it: the wheel should be changed when it looks worn, chipped or glazed (it no longer sharpens, the blade stays dull or burrs). It is good practice to replace the emery wheels every time the blade is changed. Practical tip: before sharpening, clean and degrease the blade; during sharpening, the tip of the blade should line up with the inner edge of the emery wheel without going past it.

Not screw-in but push-fit: the knurling increases grip on the counter and dampens vibrations, keeping the machine stable.
