This is the coarse-grit cup stone dedicated to the sharpening/grinding stage of the blade edge: the abrasive grit restores the cutting edge by removing worn metal, bringing the blade back to a clean, precise cut.

In sharpener assemblies the coarse-grit wheel works the edge, while the fine-grit wheel finishes it: for complete sharpening it should be paired with the matching fine-grit wheel of the same diameter and hole (Ø 55 mm, 12 mm hole, 9 mm thickness).
When to replace it: the grinding wheel should be changed when the disc looks worn, clogged or chipped, or when the blade fails to regain its edge despite several sharpening passes. A worn wheel produces an irregular cutting edge and a ragged cut.
Tip: check the diameter, thickness and hole of the grinding wheel fitted to your machine before purchasing, as the same slicer model can mount different sizes.
