The microswitch is the safety limit switch that allows the machine to start only when the guards/cover are correctly in place: if it is faulty, the machine will not start or will not stop when opened. Replace it when it is stuck, oxidised or no longer switches.
Specific to the 8G/07 grater. Small type, 20 mm hole centre distance. Check the hole spacing and format against your original microswitch. Work to be carried out by a qualified technician.
