This is the safety sensor (reed/magnetic type) that detects the correct closure of a guard, lid or cover: until the matching magnet is in position, the circuit stays open and the machine will not start. It is an essential safety component preventing start-up with the guards open.
Replace it when the machine will not start even with the guards closed, or starts with the guards open (faulty sensor). Check the hole center distance (26 mm) and the contact type against the original; work should be carried out by a technician.
